Bespoke Veneer Feature Wall- Open Plan Living

Open-plan living can be both a joy and a challenge — the space feels bright and social, but it sometimes needs a focal point to bring it all together. For this project, the client asked us to design a feature that would not only stand out but also complement the natural flow of their home.

From Concept to Design

The brief was to create a statement piece with warmth and cohesion. We explored material options and settled on custom wood veneer panels. To achieve the right balance of durability and finish, each panel was built on a premium black MDF core, then carefully veneered and matched to the client’s existing flooring. This detail was key: by echoing the tones and textures underfoot, the wall feels like it belongs to the space rather than sitting apart from it.

Crafting the Details

Over the course of a month, we developed the design using CAD visuals to refine proportions and layout. This stage allowed us — and the client — to see how the feature would work with the existing architecture and furniture. Once approved, the design moved into the hands of a skilled local Wirral joiner.

Precision was essential: aligning the veneer grain, handling joins invisibly, and ensuring the wall integrated seamlessly into the open-plan area. The craftsmanship at this stage made all the difference, elevating the design from simple panels to a piece of bespoke joinery.

The Finished Space

The completed veneer wall is more than a backdrop — it gives the open-plan living area structure and depth, while adding warmth and character. Its natural finish connects beautifully with the flooring, creating a sense of flow throughout the space.

This project is a reminder that when design and craft come together with care, even a single feature can transform an entire home.
